Code of Conduct

General Conduct

Respect for All – Members shall treat each other with courtesy and respect, regardless of experience level. Discriminatory or harassing behavior will not be tolerated.

Safety & Responsibility – All members must prioritize safety by following instructions, maintaining control of their movements, and respecting safety protocols.

Positive & Supportive Atmosphere – The club fosters a learning environment, free from excessive competitiveness, ego, or aggression.

Consent & Communication – Members must obtain mutual agreement before engaging in drills, contact exercises, or sparring.

Use of Club Equipment & Training Space

Proper Equipment Care – Members using club-provided or student loaned equipment must return it in good condition and report any damage.

Cleanliness & Orderliness – All members must maintain a clean training space and respect the facilities provided.

Prohibited Behavior – Horseplay, misuse of training weapons, and any other behavior that endangers others will not be tolerated.

Safety Regulations

Weapon Handling – Training swords and equipment must be used responsibly. Reckless or uncontrolled behavior will result in disciplinary action.

Protective Equipment – Appropriate safety gear (e.g., masks, gloves) must be worn for activities requiring it. Members are responsible for using required protective gear.

Emergency Protocols – If an unsafe situation arises, members must immediately call "HOLD," at which point all activity must cease.

Injury Reporting – All injuries, no matter how minor, must be reported to club leadership to ensure appropriate response and future prevention.

Enforcement & Disciplinary Actions

Verbal Warning – Minor infractions will result in a verbal warning from club leadership.

Temporary Suspension – Continued violations or serious misconduct may lead to temporary suspension from training sessions.

Permanent Expulsion – Repeated violations or severe misconduct may result in permanent removal from the club.

Training & Participation

Lesson Structure – Members are expected to follow the training curriculum, including drills, exercises, and discussions, to foster skill development.

Active Engagement – Members should participate attentively, ask questions, and contribute to a constructive training environment.

Sparring Participation – Sparring is optional, and all participants must respect their partner’s boundaries and follow safety guidelines.

Amendments

This Code of Conduct is subject to periodic review and updates by club leadership. Members will be notified of any changes.

By participating in South Clackamas Historical Fencing, all members agree to abide by this Code of Conduct. Failure to follow these guidelines may result in a warning, temporary removal from practice, or further disciplinary action at the discretion of club leadership. Our goal is to create a safe, welcoming, and educational environment for all members.
